In times that seem like evil is increasing and wickedness is abounding, one of the most powerful positions we can take as believers is to GIVE THANKS!
I can almost hear you wonder what are you talking about? Why would we give thanks in times where terrorism and killing of innocent people is rising across the globe?
I want to equip you with a tool that combats these spirits in the unseen realm. It’s a spiritual weapon – not a natural one – and carries with it great power!

So, what exactly am I giving thanks for? Certainly not for innocent deaths and mayhem!
Believers, you and I, we must give thanks for EVERY promise God has made to us in His word! The word of God does not, cannot, and will never fail. It says in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 24:35), Mark (Mark 13:31), and Luke (Luke 21:33) that “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” – or another way to look at this promise is to understand that God word NEVER returns void or without power to change things.
In fact, I believe that you and I were created to bring a change to exactly these things! How?
- by the word of God,
- by our prayers, and
- by our declaration!
Giving God thanks attracts God to our presence and creates an atmosphere where God will intervene in our world.
Second Chronicles 7:14 says, ” If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Here’s what I do.
I begin my prayers by thanking God – thanking Him for hearing me – thanking Him that He has His eyes on me, and that He has promised to move on my behalf, as I pray.
Then I start thanking Him for everything – both the little things and the big things He has done.
Next, I begin to ask Him to bring healing and restoration in all the places I hear on the news that need my prayer, where there have been attacks by terrorists, or a natural disaster has struck somewhere on earth.
Prayer is powerful! And we can
make a difference if we live our lives in a way that attract the presence of
God. In doing so, we will have access to the power of God to heal our
nations. Take some time each day and pray. Pray for your
nation, pray for America, pray for the nations of the world to be covered by
your prayers and by the power of God to heal!
Pray this with me, “Father I pray for our nation and for the nations of the
world. I lift my eyes toward You and set my heart on You in these times
of uncertainty. I ask that You hear my voice crying out for restoration and
salvation for the souls of those that sit in darkness. May all of our
prayers touch Your heart and move Your hand to heal our land – in Jesus’ name –
Amen.
